Featured in the 5th International Conference on Interdisciplinary Humanities and Communication Studies, this symposium explores interdisciplinary approaches to the study and conservation of cultural heritage. Cultural heritage encompasses tangible and intangible manifestations that contribute to the understanding of artistic, social, historical, and cultural practices. Its conservation requires attention not only to the materiality of heritage assets, but also to their functions, uses, meanings, memories, and contexts. This symposium brings together research on the performing arts and their objects, historical musical instruments, archaeological heritage, documents and bibliographic collections, as well as expressions of cultural identity. The contributions address these forms of heritage from complementary perspectives, including conservation-restoration, historical research, archaeology, scientific analysis, documentation, musealization, and the study of tangible and intangible heritage.
The aim of the symposium is to bring together different approaches to the conservation of cultural heritage and to demonstrate how interdisciplinary collaboration contributes to its study, documentation, interpretation, and preservation. The presentations explore the relationship between material evidence and functional, historical, social, and symbolic aspects. Topics include authenticity, the preservation of the functionality of historical objects, environmental deterioration, in situ conservation, musealization, documentary memory, and the preservation of cultural identities. Taken together, the contributions consider heritage as a complex reality in which objects, spaces, documents, practices, uses, and memories interact. The proposal seeks to provide a forum for exchange among professionals, researchers, and students working in conservation-restoration, the humanities, archaeology, art history, and other disciplines concerned with the study and preservation of heritage.
The symposium is intended for researchers, conservators-restorers, museum and heritage professionals, archaeologists, art historians, specialists in scientific analysis, and students interested in cultural heritage conservation. Topics include performing arts heritage and stage objects; historical musical instruments and functional restoration; archaeological heritage and in situ conservation; musealization and rural heritage management; graphic documents, works on paper, and bibliographic heritage; material culture and historical memory; cultural identity and personal ornaments; analytical techniques applied to heritage; authenticity; sustainability; and the relationship between tangible and intangible heritage.
Accepted papers of the symposium will be published in Communications in Humanities Research (Print ISSN 2753-7064), and will be submitted to Conference Proceedings Citation Index (CPCI), Crossref, CNKI, Portico, Google Scholar and other databases for indexing.
